Time means something completely different to God than it does to you and I.When we say that something will happen in time, we mean in minutes, hours, days, years and so on. But God cannot be bound by that way of measuring time.
The One who hung the sun in the sky, and commanded the Earth to dance around it; what is a year to Him?
The One who caused the earth to twirl on its axis; what is a day to Him?
Ancient of Days, Eternal and Everlasting one; what is an hour to Him?
So when we are waiting on God, we need to be mindful that it is not the same thing as waiting on Lee. My promises are bound by hours, days and years.
I am limited by time and space. I can only really be in one place and doing one thing at a time. No matter how I’d love to get to you, you just have to wait your turn.
I am limited by resources. I don’t have enough to attend to every request as soon as it is issued. No matter how I’d love to help you, you just have to wait till I have enough.
Waiting on God is entirely different. He is the Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Immortal God. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, He is the El-Shaddai (The all sufficient). You are not at the bottom of God’s to-do list. He doesn’t work that way.
But here we are, waiting on the promise of God. So what are we really waiting for? And how then should we wait?
I believe the truth is that we are not the ones waiting for God to deliver his promises to us. I believe God is the one waiting for us to get to a place where we can receive that promise.God’s desire, intention, purpose and plan is to bless you and reveal the abundant life He has for you.
I believe He can’t wait to show you some amazing things.
But He has to.
Because you’re not ready yet.
Remember the Israelites, languishing in slavery for a good 30 years more than they were originally supposed to (compare Genesis 15:13 to Exodus 12:40).
The amazing thing about the account is that God was still active with the Israelites in that time, to preserve them and increase them. He even blessed their allies (Exodus 1:12 and Exodus 1:19-20)
But their escape from Egypt only began when they did something they hadn’t yet done. In Exodus 2 we read that they cried out to the Lord (Exodus 2:23-25).
So God can be with you, blessing you and protecting you. Literally walking hand in hand with you. In your land of captivity. Waiting on you. Waiting for you to turn to Him and want the promise badly enough.
So are you waiting on God? Or is He waiting on you?
Getting to that point is not a passive process. It takes time spent in His presence, earnestly seeking more than the shelter of Goshen. It takes delving into Him to the point that you can know the vision and purpose He has in store for you. It takes being transformed into a person who will pursue Him out of Egypt, through a wilderness into a promised land.
Once you get there in your heart and mind, you will be amazed how fast things can turn around in your life.
Think of this; 40 years wandering in a wilderness, but the day the people were ready the river Jordan literally parted to allow them to walk straight across to their promised land
Or this; Years of ridicule and mocking and prayer and Hannah was barren, the day she decided to make a covenant with God her womb was opened and she conceived
God’s promise is not slow, seek after Him earnestly now and see if it does not come to fruition faster than you could have thought possible.
Nothing is a matter of time. It is a matter of readiness. Are you ready?
Are you mature enough to weather the challenges that are guaranteed at the level you are supposed to be? Are you willing to give up the good you know for the greater that God knows about you?
Do you want to be?
Commit to maturity. Commit to intimacy with Him and to hearing his Word. That’s where the growth happens. That’s where the change begins.
Your promises are not gifts, they do not come freely whenever they are going to come.
Your promises are an inheritance, they come to you when you have displayed sufficient maturity to steward them faithfully.
You want to get the promise faster? Grow in maturity faster.
